Catching up with the current vintage d’Arenberg Icons…..

The d’Arenberg Icon trio are just that…. rather iconic red wines from Australia’s McLaren Vale that offer elegance and superb drinkability for the value. And each are worthy of being in your cellar.
d’Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz 2016
This is part of the Icon trio and to my mind, it is probably the most iconic of the wide range of d’Arenberg wines. 100% McLaren Vale Shiraz that should be a cellar candidate although it is good drinking on release. It is also remarkable value. The 2016 vintage is fuller bodied with plush tannins. It’s earthy, cherry fruit has a solid support of Coconut Rough (coconut and milk chocolate) and vanilla. There is some spicy nutmeg on the long finish. $75 | USD35+ | £35
d’Arenberg The Coppermine Road Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
A vibrant McLaren Vale Cabernet sauvignon and again, another one to cellar. The current vintage has a varietal grip of ripe tannins on the palate. The blackberry and cherry note has some warm vanilla spice which is kept fresh by the flavour of dried herbs lasting along the finish. While it is fuller bodied, like its companions, the Coppermine Road has the distinctive d’Arenberg elegance. $75
d’Arenberg The Ironstone Pressings GSM 2016
The Ironstone Pressings is a blend of McLaren Vale Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre. It is well named as the berry notes, take on an evocative mineral and graphite slant. With some judicious use of new and seasoned oak, the juicy fruit has a spicy nutmeg nuance. Out of the d’Arenberg Icon trio, this presents to me as the most opulent but it still is fresh and youthful. $75
