Jane Eyre Wines Chenas

Jane Eyre wines

Jane Eyre is one of the Australian winemakers who makes a range of wines that cross international borders. She now makes wines in Burgundy after vintages making wine at Cullen in Margaret River, Felton Road, Central Otago and Ata Rangi in Martinborough. This Jane Eyre Wines Chenas from Beaujolais also has another Gamay stable mate. One from nearby Fleurie

Incidentally, Jane’s expertise in Pinot Noir is perhaps better known and her skills have been honed to a fine art during her time in Burgundy. She does still make Australian wines too. Therefore, it is no surprise to find a showcase of wines from Burgundy sitting alongside her impressive Jane Eyre Wines regional range from across Victoria, Australia. Plus these Beaujolais wines.

Chenas is not common. It is sought after however. The region’s sandy soils produce one of the world’s unique expressions of Gamay wines. These sandy soils produce berries that are small and concentrated, with thicker skins. Consequently, this means that these Beaujolais have the ability to age.

A hint of orange peel heightens the aromas on this medium bodied red. Sweetly ripe cherry fruitiness is offset with some allspice and nutmeg too. On the palate the fruit its fresh and vibrant. This complements a sweep of soft tannins that shape the mouth and add yet another facet to an already multidimensional wine.

This is thoughtful winemaking.
