Conversations About: What wines to buy with 660,000 Aussie dollars?

glassinger-copy I am not one to post Press Releases, but I had to put this up to let you know what you could buy with 660K Dinky Dinahs (AUD)…. The answer is: A small patch of quality grapes to grow your own wines OR  the most complete and unique collection of Penfolds Grange ever to be retailed is now available for AUD 660,000

at the fine wine and luxury spirits retailer Le Clos, situated in Dubai International airport at the crossroads of the world. No duds, all checked and some re-corked by Peter Gago of course…. The fine wine and luxury spirits retailer, Le Clos, has transported the complete unbroken chain of vintages 12,000 km from Australia to Dubai with meticulous care after curating 60 years of Australian wine history in 61 bottles, which includes;

  • the extremely rare Grange 1953 Cabernet Sauvignon, of which there are believed to be only a handful in the world, in addition to the 1953 Grange Hermitage
  • the ‘hidden Granges’; 1957, 1958 and 1959
  • award-winning vintages considered amongst the best in the world; 1955, 1976, 1990 and 2008
  • the most recent 2010 Grange launched last month to mark the 60th consecutive release of the wine

The release goes on to sayTo protect the wine and ensure its quality, Le Clos transported the collection to its new home in Dubai in partnership with Emirates Group companies – dnata, Skycargo and Freightworks. The complete Penfolds Grange set was kept in climate controlled storage, where its temperature was monitored every step of the way. The retailer has also created a bespoke, climate controlled installation designed to display its ‘jewel in the crown’ in-store. It includes a video telling the story of Chief Winemaker from 1948 to 1975 Max Schubert’s extraordinary journey that changed the face of Australian wine. The retailer has also developed a microsite which details the Penfolds Grange historical timeline and story for customers to enjoy at their leisure in the airport or online via the Le Clos website www.leclos.net. I am certainly not advocating that you purchase wine before you tick off that altruistic bucket list.

Bacchus: An English wine story ….

Bacchus is a grape that has come to my mind as one of England’s exciting white wine grapes. I first came across it in the early 2000’s when I started adding the occasional English wine to my repertoire. It wasn’t that hard to find by the mid 2000’s. There was at least...
