Bolney Bubbly Brut

Bolney Estate is amongst the wineries that are successfully convincing the British that yes… English wine is not just a novelty, it is, in fact, high quality. Perhaps though, with the English sparkling wines receiving so many awards, this message is sinking in as someone brought this wine to dinner not so long ago. Amongst the highlights of Bolney Estate’s more interesting wines is this non-vintage fizz. It is made from a blend of up to 8 grapes including the more traditional chardonnay.

The nose is refined and more delicately perfumed by ripe stonefruit, lemon and almond shortbread biscuits and apples. It is dry and crisp, with plenty of fruitiness on the palate, and a finely textured mousse of bubbles. The Bolney Bubbly has an elegant balance so that the depth of character provided by the bready autolytic notes is easy to be found.

This is one to enjoy either as an aperitif (some cod goujons anybody?) or to accompany a starter or maybe a tangy cheese.
